There are 100 official civics questions in the USCIS test bank. At your interview, the officer asks up to 10 of them. You must answer at least 6 correctly to pass.
Yes. All 100 questions and their acceptable answers are publicly available on the USCIS website and in our free app. You can and should memorize every question before your interview.
Three categories: American Government (questions 1–57): the Constitution, branches of government, rights and responsibilities. American History (questions 58–87): colonial era, independence, Civil War, 20th century. Integrated Civics (questions 88–100): geography, national symbols and holidays.
The officer will move to the next question. If you get fewer than 6 correct, you'll be scheduled for a second interview. Use the waiting period to study. Our app tracks which questions you're missing so you can focus there.
Applicants 65 or older who have been permanent residents for at least 20 years only need to study 20 questions (the "65/20 exception"). These questions are marked with an asterisk (*) on the USCIS website and in our app.
